Eligibility-based plates
Some specialty plates are available to anyone. Others require documentation proving eligibility,
such as military service, a qualifying award, organization membership or another statutory requirement.
How the order works
- Choose the specialty plate you want.
- We verify the plate is available for your vehicle type and review any required eligibility documents.
- We process the order and applicable plate fees.
- Keep your current plate on the vehicle until the new plate arrives.
- ADOT manufactures and mails the new plate, registration and tab to the address on the vehicle record.
ADOT currently lists specialty/personalized processing at up to four weeks.
Some ADOT pages still reference four-to-six weeks for particular order situations, so we avoid promising a mailbox date the state does not promise us.
