Arizona driver license & ID services

Open the service that matches your situation. Everything stays easy to scan instead of becoming a 14-foot wall of government-document prose. Civilization survives another day.

Flying domestically?

Make sure your identification is REAL ID compliant.

Since May 7, 2025, a standard non-Travel Arizona license or ID by itself is not REAL ID compliant for TSA checkpoints. An Arizona Travel ID, U.S. passport or another federally accepted credential can be used instead.

The Arizona Travel ID is optional for driving. It is available as a driver license or identification card.
Travel ID Requirements ↓
01 Arizona Travel ID / REAL ID Driver license or ID card for TSA checkpoints and restricted federal facilities

The Arizona Travel ID is Arizona’s REAL ID-compliant credential. It is available as either a driver license or identification card. You can identify a compliant Arizona credential by the star in the upper-right corner.

What to bring

1 proof of identity For many U.S. citizens: an original/certified birth certificate, unexpired U.S. passport or passport card. Other approved documents may qualify.
Your Social Security number You must provide your complete SSN. A physical Social Security card is generally not required.
2 proofs of Arizona residency Two documents from different sources showing your name and current Arizona residential address.
Name changed? If the name on your identity document does not match your current legal name, bring original or certified documentation connecting the names, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order.

If you do not have two residency documents, an Arizona Residency Affidavit may be used as one proof in qualifying situations, but you will still need another acceptable Arizona residency document.

02 Original Arizona Driver License / New to Arizona First Arizona license or transferring a license from another state

Moving to Arizona or applying for your first Arizona driver license? We can process the application, document review, vision screening and any required testing.

If you already have a license from another U.S. state

  • Bring your current out-of-state driver license or identification credential.
  • Bring proof of identity/authorized presence and provide your Social Security number as required.
  • Written and road testing are typically not required when your prior license qualifies for a testing waiver.
  • If you want a Travel ID, bring the additional REAL ID residency documents listed in the Travel ID section.

If you have never been licensed in the United States

You will generally need to complete the written permit test before taking a road skills test.

Foreign licenses: Testing requirements vary. Arizona currently has testing exemptions for qualifying applicants licensed in Canada, Germany, South Korea and Taiwan. Other foreign applicants generally need written and road testing.
03 Instruction Permit & Written Knowledge Test New drivers, permit applicants and customers who need written testing

Arizona’s standard written permit test contains 30 multiple-choice questions, and a score of 80% or higher is required to pass.

Instruction permit basics

  • You must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to apply for an instruction permit.
  • The instruction permit is valid for 12 months.
  • Drivers under 18 must generally hold the issued permit for at least six months before becoming eligible for the graduated license road test.
  • A vision screening and credential photo are completed when the permit is issued.

Permit Test @ Home

Arizona teens under 18 may be eligible to take the Permit Test @ Home through a parent or legal guardian’s AZ MVD Now account. After passing, the applicant still needs to visit an office with the required documents to have the permit issued.

Testing cutoff: For testing at EZ Title, please arrive by 5:00 PM Monday–Friday or 2:00 PM Saturday.
04 Road Skills Test Complete the driving test required for your Arizona license

A road test evaluates your ability to safely control the vehicle, follow traffic laws, observe signs and signals, make safe decisions and complete required driving/parking maneuvers.

Bring a qualifying vehicle

  • The vehicle must be in safe operating condition.
  • Bring valid vehicle registration and current liability insurance.
  • A licensed driver should accompany an applicant who cannot legally drive to the office alone.
  • Applicants under 18 must meet Arizona’s permit-holding and graduated-license eligibility requirements before testing.

No testing vehicle? We have a rental option.

EZ Title offers a road-test rental vehicle at participating testing locations. Reserve ahead so the vehicle is available for your appointment.

Road tests are limited by appointment availability, weather and safety conditions. Scheduling ahead is strongly recommended.
05 Driver License Renewal Renew an Arizona license and update your photo or credential when needed

If your Arizona driver license is due for renewal, EZ Title can process eligible in-office renewals. Depending on your record, renewal may include a new photo, vision screening and identity-document review.

Standard vs. Travel ID

  • Standard Arizona driver license expiration varies by age and credential type.
  • Arizona requires a driver license photo update at least every 12 years.
  • Travel IDs are generally valid for up to eight years, with shorter validity periods for certain age groups or limited authorized presence.
  • Renewal is a convenient time to upgrade from a non-Travel credential to a Travel ID if you bring the required REAL ID documents.
Need the Travel ID too? Bring one qualifying identity document, your full Social Security number and two qualifying Arizona residency documents so the upgrade can be completed during the same visit.
06 Replacement, Address & Name Updates Lost card, new address, legal name change or replacement credential

We can help with common driver license and ID updates, including lost/stolen cards, address changes and qualifying legal-name changes.

Address change

Arizona requires residents to report an address change to MVD within 10 days. Updating the address changes the MVD record. A replacement card is needed if you want the new address reflected on a physical credential.

Legal name change

Bring the required original or certified legal document supporting the change, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order. Additional identity or Social Security verification may be required.

Lost or stolen credential

Bring another form of identification if available. If you believe a stolen credential is being used by someone else, report the suspected identity theft to law enforcement.

07 Arizona Identification Card Standard or Travel ID cards for children, adults and seniors

Arizona identification cards are available for residents who need official photo identification without a driver license. Arizona also issues ID cards for children.

Children

ADOT recommends Arizona ID cards for children because the photo and identifying information can assist law enforcement and can also make identification for school, travel or activities easier.

Standard ID fee exceptions

  • Standard non-Travel ID cards are issued without a state ID-card fee to people age 65 or older.
  • Qualifying Supplemental Security Income recipients may also qualify for a no-fee standard ID card.
  • These no-fee provisions do not apply to the Arizona Travel ID.
Authorized Third Party convenience/service fees may still apply even when the state ID-card fee is waived.
08 Commercial Driver License Services CDL services and knowledge testing at our Tempe location
Tempe only: EZ Title’s CDL services are handled at our Tempe location.

We assist with qualifying CDL transactions so commercial drivers can handle common credential work without a separate MVD visit.

Services may include

  • Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) processing and knowledge testing.
  • CDL renewals and duplicate credentials.
  • Qualifying out-of-state CDL transfers.
  • Medical Examiner Certificate / DOT medical card updates.
  • Knowledge testing for commercial classes and eligible endorsements.
  • Travel ID upgrades when the required REAL ID documents are provided.

Federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) completion must be verified when required for the CDL transaction. Hazardous Materials endorsements have separate federal TSA/security requirements.

CDL road skills tests are not offered by EZ Title. A qualifying skills-test completion must come from an authorized CDL skills-testing provider before the final CDL can be issued when a skills test is required.
09 License Reinstatement Suspensions, revocations, SR-22 requirements and qualifying restricted-license services

Reinstatement requirements are specific to the driver’s record. The fastest way to avoid paying for something you do not need is to identify every open action first, then complete the requirements in the order MVD requires.

Common requirements may include

  • Court clearance or a court abstract for applicable court-related actions.
  • Future Financial Responsibility / SR-22 filed with MVD when required.
  • Alcohol or drug screening, education or treatment when required.
  • Ignition-interlock compliance for applicable DUI-related actions.
  • A Permission to Reapply process after certain revocations.
  • Payment of applicable reinstatement and credential fees.
Restricted driving privileges are case-specific. Some insurance-related restricted permits can be handled through an Authorized Third Party provider. Certain DUI restricted permits must be issued by MVD. Eligibility depends on the actions currently showing on your record.

DUI screening, treatment & education

If your reinstatement requires state-approved screening, treatment or education, EZ Title customers can use our partner, Opus Recovery Center, for qualifying services.

Before installing an ignition interlock or purchasing an SR-22 solely for reinstatement, confirm the exact requirements on your MVD record. Another unresolved action can prevent reinstatement even after one requirement is completed.
